I had been trying very hard to get a portrait shot of the mountains, with Macchiagodena in the background. I wanted to frame it for my bedroom. Unfortunately, I could never seem to get the right shot. Most of the time, it was a little too foggy. And, I couldn't quite get close enough to the town. A natural spring fountain. They seem to be found all over. I think this is the one my family used to use to get water from. The church in Incoronata.

My zio Antonio and zia Marta happened by, while I was snapping pictures. They had come by to ask us over for lunch. My dad's old house and the view behind it. Zia Incoronata with her next door neighbour. Zia Nicola with plums from his tree (I LOVE plums!)

Zio Antonio and zia Marta, on their balcony. Their house is huge. They live on the bottom floor. Their son Michele, wife Rita and two sons live in the top floors, on one side. And the top floors on the other side are reserved for Felice, if ever he should marry. A view of Macchiagodena Ma and zia Marta making polenta.

Felice drove us home, but ma asked him to make a stop first. She wanted to check her sister's old neighbourhood. (Ma used to wake up really early and go off for a walk. When she attempted to get to this area, she had to turn back - wasps started after her.) These pictures are of my cousin's husband's old home (Donato) who lives in Argentina.

The present owners of ma's old house were kind enough to give us a tour. This back door opens into a mini courtyard. This covered hall used to be a wide balcony at the front of the house. My mother seemed sad that it was covered over, and I thought it was a shame, too. Until she mentioned the fact that with the old design, the bedrooms opened out onto the balcony. So, you would have to go outside to get to the bathroom. Yup. It had to be covered over. The kitchen had the least amount of work done to it. The fireplace is original, except for newer stones inside it. The walls are original and so is the oven that's tucked into the wall (far left in the picture). The back of the house.

Grain storage - this was my grandfather's, I think. Bottom floor. Two rooms were joined to make one larger room. Ma recognized this picture, as it was her dad's. They kindly offered it to us, but we really didn't need to have it.
