My mother with Tony's godmother. You can see the virgin Mary behind them. She has a triple crown, hence the name of the church and the name of the village, Incoronata. | Tony's godmother - a very nice shot of her. Since we didn't have time to have dinner with her one day (a complaint we kept hearing from everyone), she insisted she buy us a cup of coffee. We went across the street from the church, to the local hotel, Valle Verde. Tony stayed in this hotel for 3 days, when he and his family went to Italy in '98 (or was it '99?)

Felice and ma at my great-grandfather's house, in Carapone (a few miles from Incoronata). It's abandoned now, but still owned by the extended Perrella family (just not mine!) | My mother scampered up the steps, and Felice flipped out. It's not in the best shape, and he was (justly) worried it might collapse. But she ignored him. Love this old place. The old stones are beautiful.

After visiting Carapone, Felice took us to his place for dinner. His dad and my dad are cousins, and Reid and I stayed at their place overnight in 1998 (or was it 1999??). This would be my zio Antonio, and zia Marta. They are so very sweet! | During dinner, I suddenly realized I liked to stare at my uncle. I really like his personality, but there was something more. And I remember feeling the same thing years ago, when I first met him. This time, I took a few minutes to concentrate on why. And it came to me... he reminded me of my grandfather. Not so much his looks, but more of his mannerisms. The way he uses his hands when he talks. He certainly laughs and jokes more than my grandfather did, but I found I couldn't get enough of looking at him. My grandfather died when I was 10, and it devastated me. After dinner, I mentioned the resemblance, thinking they'd all say I was just imagining it, but no... everyone took it in stride. Ya, we all know he took after his uncle. Wow. | My cousin Michael and his wife Rita, Michael's brother Felice, zio Antonio, zia Marta and ma. It was the first time I got to meet Michael (he was out of town when Reid and I went) and it was a pleasure. We hit it off right away. You should see his sons. Drop dead gorgeous, in that famous Italian way. There's a shot of them on our last night.
