COLOR 01 JULY 1995 STS071(E)024 JOHNSON SPACE CENTER, HOUSTON, TEXAS STS-71 VIEW FROM MIR ---- This electronic still image shows part of Russia's Mir Space Station and a portion of the payload bay of the Space Shuttle Atlantis, backdropped against Earth's limb. A small area on the Spacelab science module (note STS-71 decal) is visible in the lower left quadrant of the image. Following the historic linkup of the two spacecraft on June 29, five astronauts and two cosmonauts made their way through the science module and a special tunnel apparatus attached to it to begin a week's work onboard the two countries' linked spacecraft with astronaut Norman E. Thagard and two cosmonauts. The latter three have been onboard Mir since March of this year. An electronic still camera (ESC), marking NASA's first in-space usage of downlinked color still imagery, recorded the scene. PHOTO CREDIT: NASA or National Aeronautics and Space Administration
